How to Get Back Into Alignment

Last night, I finally watched the movie Eat, Pray Love starring Julia Roberts. It was based on Elizabeth Gilbert’s book of the same name.

The book and movie chronicled the true story of how Elizabeth was at a crossroads in her life after getting divorced and decided to travel the world to rediscover and reconnect with her true self.

Now I see why the movie was so popular among women when it came out.

Although every woman may not have the same desire to travel around the world, the feeling of being lost is familiar to so many of us.

The feeling may come after a relationship or marriage ends, or a job loss, or even kids leaving to go off to college.

The questions start to rise up:

Who am I?

What do I want?

Now what?

You live in the discomfort of the questions for a while before realizing the truth that you need to get back to YOU.

More specifically, you need to get back into alignment with your goals, dreams and desires.

This week, I’ve been talking to many of my clients about alignment and how it affects every area of their lives – from relationships to career to business to lifestyle.

As you walk the path of becoming a happy black woman, you have to find the courage to make decisions are in alignment with who you really are.

Because when you don’t, that’s when you feel overwhelmed. You feel out of balance. You feel disconnected. You even get depressed.

In fact, that’s actually how you know you’re OUT of alignment. But the good news is, you don’t have to stay there.

I know I’m out of alignment when I feel overwhelmed. Lately, it’s been showing up for me as having “too much going on.”

So this week, I’ve been spending my mornings in front of my personal altar, lighting a candle for clarity, choosing a wisdom/blessing/affirmation card (I’m really loving the Soulful Woman Guidance Card Deck), sitting for 10 minutes of meditation and journaling about what comes up from me.

And what’s coming up for me right now is that I need to reconnect with my creativity.

Creativity is that soulful part of me that sometimes goes missing when I’m in “CEO mode” and 100% focused on strategic planning and growing my business. But I am definitely feeling called to dive deeper into that heart-centered, authentic, feminine place within me where all my BEST writing and teaching and coaching comes from.

That’s why I’m so excited to be attending an all-day “write-a-thon” tomorrow in San Diego. I literally cannot wait to be in a room full of other writers and creatives, getting it all out on the page with no distractions for an entire day!

I don’t know how this new creative spark will manifest, but my intention is for it to inspire the work I am creating for our Happy Black Woman tribe.

So I’m curious…do you need to get back to YOU?

If so, I encourage you to carve out time over the next few days for you to be alone so that you can reconnect with yourself.

Sit in meditation.

Tune in to the voice of spirit within you.

Listen to your intuition.

Write in your journal.

And then – notice what messages come up for you. Don’t push them away. Let them in so they can tell you what you need to know.

What I’ve learned is that it’s critical to do whatever it takes to get back into alignment. Your happiness depends on it and you’re so worth it!
