The Actual Voices of Enslaved Black People Recorded From The 1800s

Amazing what was found on old recording devices from the late 1800's. Records were found of multiple interviews of actual Black American slaves of the time. What you will hear is both disturbing and shocking. How does it make you feel?

These recordings are part of the WPA slave narratives, interviews which were conducted in the 1930s and 1940s.

American descendants of Slaves (#ADOS) have suffered incalculable generational damage from governmental and institutionalized racist policies and practices. I like to be taken back in time. Just to hear authentic recording of the 1800 is awesome. The authenticity of his voice is so surreal. I am truly touched just knowing how well kept the recording delivers clear audio. My great grandmother was born 1912. Currently 2019 my mother is 84 still tells stories of how sharing sugar, flour and other commodities with families was so common. Erry body ate. They survived on little and God. Thanks for sharing.

I am a researcher. I am so glad you have posted these recordings. One of my research documents detailed how the first few generations of enslaved Black ppl did indeed live until they were in their hundreds. Some of them were abducted when they were in their 50s and still in the most vile, horrendous conditions lived a century. That tells me that they were living extraordinarily long lives in Africa. I read in one article that slave owners had sex farms and would tell a black woman if she would have 14 babies then she would be freed.

Of course those weren’t their babies to keep. Those women mourned the loss of those babies for the rest of their lives. So now white ppl are saying about the kids separated on the border that this is not who we are. I say yes hell it is who you are. I feel sorry for those families.

And if you want to really get an inkling of why they don’t want us to look back, look up BUCK BREAKING SEASON.

Much of the same was done to me in the 40’s and 50’s by a White Stepparent and other relative and community members , I know she is telling the truth. My Story is so close . My mother died when I was 13 months old.

I have waited 75 years and 11 months for these voices to emerge to present their own experience as enslaved human beings ,in the so called free World. Please respond. Warm Regards ,Evelyn Tyson Woodson ,Love Ambassador to Izmir Turkey
